CONSOL R&D Inc.,
part of CONSOL Energy Inc. has provided energy
and environmental research and technical
services at our 80-acre facility for over 50 years. We
are located approximately 9 miles south of Pittsburgh in South Park, Pennsylvania. Our mission
includes energy development, energy efficiency enhancements, fossil fuel emissions reduction,
development of emerging energy-related technologies, and integration of existing technologies
for the production and consumption of coal and natural gas. CONSOL R&D's staff of experienced chemists,
engineers and scientists provide a wide range of
analytical services,
source sampling services,
metallurgical coal characterization services,
pilot plant design and operation, and
coal pulverizing services.
CONSOL R&D provides a wide array of services to both government and private clients |
Research Services conducts and coordinates numerous government
and privately funded projects that develop and demonstrate emissions control technologies for new and existing power
plants, greenhouse gas reduction technologies, and carbon sequestration technologies.
Analytical Services provides sampling, analytical measurements, and
consulting services for fuels, geological samples, water quality, air and water emissions, oil analysis, preventive
maintenance, and mercury emissions. The analytical services group maintains a modern 20,000 sq. ft. facility equipped
with a wide variety of analytical instruments and experienced staff to meet your sampling, analytical and consulting needs.
Air Sampling Services provides EPA Title V compliance testing
and consulting, specializing in quantitation and speciation of mercury emissions, and mercury mass balance testing.
CONSOL R&D has provided emissions testing and optimization of emissions control equipment at large electric power
generators for more than 20 years.
Metallurgical Coal Services operates a coal carbonization testing
and research facility that determines the coking characteristics of coals and coal blends for the metallurgical coal
customers. The facility features and capabilities include a pilot scale coke oven, sole heated oven, coal and coke
petrography, coke reactivity and physical and chemical characterization.
Pilot Plant Services has the infrastructure and experienced engineers
to offer design, construction and operation services associated with pilot plants used in the research field.
These sevices are provided to clients that require a pilot plant to demonstrate the commercial viability of their
technology or to provide a test platform for technology enhancement and testing.
Pulverizing Services has a two ton per hour pulverizing facility
available to purlverize coal and prepare for bulk shipment in 'super sacks" or bulk transport by truck.
